The webserver, gemini server, and encryption certificate handling server parts of this site are all hosted on an old recycled thinkpad which I plan to power off a solar system I built myself. The open source machine learning model engine is hosted on an old recycled desktop PC optimized for use with a power efficent GPU (Nvidia 1070ti 8gb)
This website is a learning excercise for me, and I wanted to turn it into a learning oppurtunity for anyone like me who is interested in this stuff. Im taking some extra time and effort to share my journey at every notable step. I have been into locally hosting open license machine learning/artificial intelligence models for over a year now. During that time I've learned a lot. I have tested dozens of cutting edge models the same day they release benchmarking their abilities. Today I explore their potential for improving the lives of people in a positive way. I plan to write a non-techical step by step beginners tutorial for anyone interested in getting started with this technology.
I provide a free semi-public LLM service for fellow hobbyist to use in the form of kobold.cpp WebUI loaded up with several model configurations on-demand. I don't really know why you would want to try my quantized sub-30b models but perhaps you just want to try out kobold without installing it, or trust a privacy concious hobbyist with your data more than FAANG and want to see what an old consumer grade desktop can do. I am a main developer and active modder for the open source game VoxeLibre. I have been working as a dev on the project for over two years now. During that time i've learned skills related to parsing/documenting legacy code, building complex logic systems from scratch, graphical art and image editing software, 3d model creation and texturing, and gameplay development within a voxel-based game engine.
